Introducing Latvian students with the project

The first project activity that took place in Tirza Primary School with year 4, 5, 6, and 7 pupils was the discussion about the project’s topic Migration. First of all students had to define what does it mean to migrate. Following that, the students had to decide on the reasons why people would have to move away from their country. They had to place the 10 reasons why people move starting from the most important to the least important. In each class the opinions were slightly different, but they all could agree that social and political reasons were most important.

The second task was to imagine themselves in a situation where they come home and their parents tell them that they have one evening to pack their suitcase, because  the next day they are leaving the country for a long time. Pupils had to write what they would miss about Latvia – mostly those were their friends, relatives, school, food, language and Latvia itself. They wrote that they would feel shocked, angry and confused as well as happy and excited. At the end, all classes made posters about these activities.

The pupils are very happy to be participating in this project, because it opens new doors for learning, friendship and experience.
